Design guidelines for the building of homes are in place. These are not restrictive, but are designed to achieve a better harmony with the environment, and to meet the benchmarks set for a sustainable development.

Design and planning

• All lots meet sustainable design principles that focus on retaining, protecting and enhancing the natural aspects and elements of the land.

• Drainage designed according to Water Sensitive Urban Design Principles in order to protect the existing wetlands and Oyster Harbour.

• Effectively planned road network that is sensitive to existing topography and reflects the principles of the Liveable Neighbourhoods Code.

Social sustainability

Vibrant, functioning and supportive communities are vital to any residential area. At Oyster Harbour, planning to build a strong community is an important part of the development.

The group ‘Creating Communities’ will continue to be involved in social sustainability planning through their social, economic and environmental initiatives to build a community that thrives.
